SCP Auctions Presents the Presidential Golf Collection – Preview Open SCP Auctions Presents the Presidential Golf Collection – Preview Open(0)

The recently closed Newport (Calif.) Sports Museum originally opened its doors in 1995. Since 1953, when its founder and curator, John Hamilton, was just 12 years old, he’s been acquiring sports artifacts. In the mid-80s, Hamilton began channeling some of his collecting efforts in the direction of U.S. Presidents’ golf sets. A staunch Republican, Hamilton had recently acquired former President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s golf bag and clubs and figured: “I thought it would be cool to see if I could collect them all.” Read More

Rare 1968 Ernie Banks Chicago Cubs Game Worn Home Jersey Set To Go Up For Auction at SCP Auctions Rare 1968 Ernie Banks Chicago Cubs Game Worn Home Jersey Set To Go Up For Auction at SCP Auctions(0)

If anyone had a key to the City of Chicago, it would have been the late, great Ernie Banks. The most popular player in the storied history of the Chicago Cubs, Banks earned the nickname “Mr. Cub” during the course of his 19-year, Hall of Fame career. The first black player in Cubs’ history, Banks came up as a shortstop, which is the position he played while winning back-to-back N.L. MVP awards (1958-59), but actually played more games at first base before retiring after the ’71 season. Amazingly, he still holds team records for games played (2,528), extra-base hits (1,009) and total bases (4,706). Next month, starting on August 5th, one of his rarest Cubs jerseys goes on the auction block at www.scpauctions.com. Read More
