Mile High Card Company’s May 24th Auction Features Key Rarities and Outstanding Selection of Complete Sets

Mile High Card Company’s spring 2012 auction is open for bidding and will culminate on May 24th. The auction available for bidding and to register on the company’s web site at www.milehighcardco.com and has been received with a great deal of pre -auction interest. The 1630-plus lot auction features a bevy of impressive items and is buoyed by a terrific group of complete and nearly complete vintage sets from all four of the major sports. When questioned on the current auction, Mile High Card Company President and CEO Brian Drent exhaled that the sale was “a thorough presentation of a vintage offering that really offered something for everyone, with a great amount of fresh-to-the-hobby material being offered.”

Mile High Card Co. catalogs present much more like informative reference books than auction catalogs with well-written, informative descriptions detailing each of the offered lots. The current auction, just like the vast majority of MHCC’s auctions, is paced by an outstanding selection of high-grade singles, as well as an abundance of stunning high-grade complete sets as well as partial sets. As well, the sale includes a nice number of interesting pieces of memorabilia and a fine selection of game-used items.

A couple of the highlights of the auction are the following: The #1 PSA Set Registry Current And All Time Finest 1911 T9 Turkey Red Boxing Set which will be offered as a complete set as well as singles and will sell to the highest aggregate bid; also being offered is a stunning 1917-20 M101-6 Felix Mendelsohn Sporting News Supplement of Babe Ruth which has been graded by PSA as a 5.5 EX+ which is the highest graded copy in the hobby.

Also offered in this exceptional sale is the #2 Current And All Time Finest 1940 Play Ball Near Complete Set which features NM/MT PSA 8 copies of such luminaries as Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio and “Shoeless” Joe Jackson among a multitude of others. Certainly not to be overlooked is a stunning and captivating 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle that has been graded NM/MT 8 by PSA; as well MHCC is featuring a stunning 1954 Topps #128 Hank Aaron rookie that has been graded SGC 96(9) MINT, and a breathtaking example of hobby icon Sandy Koufax’s rookie card that has justly been deemed MINT 96(9) by SGC.

Offered of more recent release is a marvelous presentation of a complete 1991 Topps Desert Shield set that has been completely graded by PSA and ranks as the #1 Current And All Time Finest offering sporting a ridiculous 9.88 GPA with an equally amazing 690/792 cards having been graded GEM MINT 10 by PSA. The other three major sports needn’t be overlooked in the current MHCC sale as each is supported by highlights of their own such as an electrifying 1957 Topps #119 Bart Starr that has been awarded the top grade at SGC by grading MINT 96(9) with the New Jersey based grading firm; additionally the sale offers a captivating 1969 Topps Football 24 count unopened rack box which is a recent find and should make waves amongst unopened enthusiasts.

Although Mile High Card Company is generally regarded as the industry leader when it comes to high-grade cardboard, memorabilia enthusiasts needn’t worry as this segment of the hobby is well represented in the current MHCC sale. Highlighting the memorabilia offerings is an impressive offering of Type I photographs of Joe Jackson, several of which are traced back to legendary photographer Louis Van Oeyen. Also presented for the bidding pleasure of its clients is a startling list of game-used jerseys highlighted by names such as Ripken, Brett, Ichiro, Elway, Bourque and the like.

As is always the case with a Mile High Card Company auction there is literally something for everyone, from the pre-war enthusiasts to post-war collectors, from the high-grade aficionados to collector-grade type hobbyists. According to MHCC’s Managing Director of Acquisitions, Andy Madec, MHCC’s current auction “contains a vast array of material encompassing many different areas of the hobby, but certainly highlighted by an impressive group of complete and nearly complete sets.”

All of the aforementioned highlights as well as the rest of the 1600+ lots are available for bidding on the company’s website at www.milehighcardco.com or by contacting MHCC via telephone at (303) 840-2784. As previously mentioned all catalogs have been shipped for this auction and bidding will culminate May 24th. Mile High Card Company is currently accepting consignments for their fall auction (as well as all 2012 auctions).
