Industry leader SCP Auctions sold the world’s oldest baseball card – 1869 Peck & Snyder Cincinnati Red
Stockings trade card for $51,121 in their July 23 online auction. The first baseball card ever produced was authenticated by PSA and highlighted SCP Auctions summer online auction, which netted $1.5 million.“Once again, our clients have proven that demand for sports collectibles across the entire market remains strong,” said David Kohler, president of SCP Auctions.. “Whether it’s a high grade tobacco card, autographed Ruth item, or something a little more modern, we saw great participation in our sale at every level.”

Additional card highlights include a 1909-11 T206 Ty Cobb Lenox Brown Back SGC 30 GOOD ($20,714), 1909 E90-1 American Caramel Joe Jackson PSA FR 1.5 ($8,488), 1915 Cracker Jack #103 Joe Jackson PSA NM-MT 8 ($42,517) and a T210 Old Mill Series 8 Joe Jackson PSA GOOD 2 ($85,594), which was the second highest price realized in the sale.
More card results included a 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle PSA MINT 9 (o/c) ($43,942), High Grade 1952 Bowman Baseball Complete Set ($10,630), 1960 Topps Complete Set all PSA 8 NM-MT ($23,386), 1954 Dan Dee Complete Set with PSA NM-MT 8 Mantle ($9,905), 1952 Topps #2 Pete Runnels PSA MINT 9 ($17,119) and a 1948 Leaf #5 Satchell Paige PSA EX 5 ($8,488).
SCP Auctions’ memorabilia line up was headlined by a 1925-30 Babe Ruth Louisville Slugger Professional Model Bat graded MEARS A9 ($87,864), NBA 50 Greatest Basketball Players Legends Edition signed lithograph #15/50 ($62,249), 1917-19 Ty Cobb sidewritten Louisville Slugger Professional Model Bat graded MEARS A9.5 ($31,944), Stan Musial’s 1955 All-Star Game Winning Home Run Bat ($42,517) and Michael Jordan’s 1989-90 Game Worn Road Jersey ($31,127).
