1975 Topps Basketball Moses Malone Rookie #254 PSA 10 with a PWCC-E Assessment Sold for $102,000

Another 1975 Topps Basketball Moses Malone Rookie #254 PSA 10 – but this time with a PWCC-A assessment – sold for $96,000. The sale is the second-highest ever paid for a Moses Malone card.  The 1975 Moses Malone rookie card is notoriously difficult to find in quality condition. PSA 10 populations are in the double digits as the print quality of the set is known for technical issues.  According to public data, the previous record high for a Moses Malone card was $19,200.

One component that led to the record-setting night is the PWCC Eye Appeal designations attached to the cards. Cards that receive these designations consistently sell higher than the market average – as is seen in the two Malone sales. A PWCC-A assessment is assigned to cards in the Top 30 Percent of the quality spectrum. A PWCC-E assessment indicates a Top 15 Percent designation. Truly exceptional assets receive a PWCC-S designation, indicating a Top 5 Percent asset in terms of Eye Appeal.

Another element, of course, is Malone – the only NBA player to win back-to-back MVP awards for two different teams. He’s likely best known for the second of those MVP years when he also won the Finals MVP award on route to an NBA Championship with the 76ers in the 1982-83 season. Over the course of his career, Malone played for seven different NBA teams and two ABA teams, with his rookie card featuring him on the Utah Stars of the ABA.
