This premier auction showcases an exceptional collection of Hall of Fame rookie cards, prewar rarities, vintage photography, and historically significant pieces that appeal to both seasoned collectors and newcomers to the hobby. With an emphasis on pre-World War II material, LOTG continues its tradition of offering authenticated items that represent the golden age of American sports.
“This Fall auction represents some of the finest sports memorabilia we’ve brought to market,” said Al Crisafulli, founder of Love of the Game Auctions. “We’ve curated pieces that tell the story of baseball’s rich history, from 19th-century rarities to modern classics. Every item has been carefully authenticated, giving collectors confidence that they’re acquiring genuine pieces of sports history.”
Among the standout offerings is an incredible signed 1933-36 Zeenut PCL Joe DiMaggio card with coupon, graded PSA VG-EX 4/AUTO 7—a Hall of Fame rookie card that is likely the most desirable Zeenut card in existence. The auction also features a 1936 Goudey World Wide Gum #51 Joe DiMaggio graded SGC VG-EX+ 4.5, another highly sought-after rookie card of the Yankee Clipper. Additional highlights include a 1924-25 Aguilitas #869 Oscar Charleston card, graded SGC VG 3, honoring one of baseball’s Negro League legends on the heels of LOTG’s record-breaking sale of a 1923-24 Tomas Gutierrez Charleston in their spring auction.
Perhaps the most interesting lot in the auction is a historically significant collection of 1890-1891 Cincinnati Reds documents chronicling the team’s dramatic entry into—and exit from—the Players’ League, complete with handwritten contracts and court documents signed by 19th-century team owners.
“The Cincinnati Reds documents are astonishing,” said Crisafulli. “This is a little-known piece of baseball history that was quite a drama at the time. For a short time, the Reds were sold to a group that was going to put them in the Players’ League. Then the Players’ League folded, and the National League had to race to get the team re-sold and brought back into the National League. These documents include some of those sale agreements – some handwritten, even on hotel letterhead. It’s an incredible piece of baseball history.”
The auction’s vintage baseball photography selection is particularly impressive, highlighted by an enormous 1904 Boston Red Sox vs. Chicago White Sox panoramic photograph by George Lawrence, capturing the grandeur of South Side Park in stunning detail. This rare piece offers collectors a window into baseball’s early 20th-century landscape. The photography collection also includes original Type I photos by legendary photographer Charles Conlon and other period pieces that document baseball’s formative years.
The auction includes rare finds that span multiple eras of sports collecting, offering opportunities for collectors at every level. From individual inheritance pieces to world-class collection items, LOTG facilitates sales that preserve and celebrate the legacy of America’s favorite pastime.
Founded in 2012, Love of the Game Auctions has built its reputation on trustworthiness, expertise, and a deep passion for the hobby.
