With a loaded lineup set for its July 28 auction, it’s too bad collectors have to wait until July 18 to get into the action courtesy of Huggins and Scott. There are plenty of highlights to make any collector mark their calendar for the event. The auction has it all, from highly-sought single-signed baseballs and game-used equipment from Hall of Famers to high-grade vintage cards and championship rings. The auction will run July 18 – July 27/28, 2011. When it comes to autographed items, Huggins and Scott is offering a Babe Ruth and Walter Johnson signed OAL William Harridge baseball. And speaking of Johnson, he has also signed a 1923 Washington Senators/Chicago White Sox multi-signed baseball that also includes signatures from Eddie Collins, Ray Schalk, Stanley Harris and Sam Rice.
Another coveted multi-signed ball is a 1927 Philadelphia Athletics team ball signed by Ty Cobb, Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons, Lefty Grove, Zach Wheat and Connie Mack. Cobb makes another appearance in the sale courtesy of a signed newspaper photo.
A single-signed gem in the sale is a Satchel Paige sweet spot signature on an OAL MacPhail ball.
Vintage cards include 250 1909-11 T206 White Borders, including 32 Hall of Famers, that are glued on five scrapbook pages. Some of the players include Nap Lajoie, Christy Mathewson, Cy Young and Tris Speaker.
If those T206s aren’t to your liking, perhaps you’ll enjoy the quartet of White Border Ty Cobbs in different pose variations – included are PSA 4 version of a Red Portrait (Sweet Caporal), PSA 3 Bat Off Shoulder (Sweet Caporal), PSA 2 Green Portrait (Piedmont) and PSA 1 Bat On Shoulder (Sweet Caporal).
Another coveted T206 in the sale is a Walter Johnson portrait example, graded PSA 5.
There are a variety of unique complete sets in the auction, including a 2005 Sweet Spot Classic Baseball “Red Stitch Blue Ink” complete set (78) that includes autographed cards of Joe DiMaggio, Ernie Banks, Johnny Bench, Yogi Berra, Bob Gibson, Harmon Killebrew, George Brett, Robin Yount, Nolan Ryan, Carl Yastrzemski, Duke Snider, Stan Musial and many more.
If that one is a little too steep, try the 2002 Topps 206 Certified Autograph complete set (42). Stars include Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Alex Rodriguez, Joe Mauer and Albert Pujols.
And finally, there is the 1968 Topps Football Test Teams complete set of 25. All the franchises of the time are represented except the Cincinnati Bengals.
Championship rings in the auction include the 1978 Washington Bullets NBA Championship ring once owned by sports photographer Vince Greco. Another ring in the auction is Brook Robinson’s 1970 World Series salesman sample ring.
Among the game-used items in the sale are items belonging to Don Sutton, including his Los Angeles Dodgers jacket, cap, cleats and bat.
