The inaugural auction by Love of the Game Auctions,, a new internet-based sports auction house catering to the passionate collector of memorabilia and cards, is now open for bidding. The auction closing date is Saturday, October 27. The auction features quality baseball and football cards and memorabilia from the late 19th Century to the early 1970s, highlighted by the exceptionally high-grade National Chicle Bronko Nagurski (graded NEAR MINT 7 by PSA), known throughout the hobby as the most coveted and valuable football card.
“So many auctions are light on football,” said LOTG auction director Al Crisafulli. “We worked hard to pull together a quality assortment of football cards for our debut, and we think we’ve got a fantastic selection.” One of the auction’s highlights is a beautiful, high-grade 1963 Fleer football set. Ranked #13 on the PSA Registry, this is one of the finest 1960s football sets in existence and has just 24 cards graded under NM-MT 8, and none under NMT 7. Also featured in the auction is a beautiful 1972 Topps Roger Staubach rookie card. Graded MINT 9 by PSA, this card is a stunning example, in the top 98% of all graded Staubach rookies, with just two copies graded higher. A Staubach rookie is an extraordinarily difficult card to find in this condition. Also highlighted is a beautiful run of 1935 National Chicle football cards, including several of the ultra-scarce high numbers. All in PSA 7 or 8, these amazing cards are among the most beautiful we have ever seen. Check out the killer cards of Jim MacMurdo, Ernie Caddel and Swede Johnston. For 1948 Leaf collectors, we have a beautiful assortment of high-grade cards as well. Check out this stunning PSA 8.5 Paul Governali! We’ve also got a number of other high-grade complete sets, including 1962 Fleer, 1964 Topps, and 1966 Philadelphia.
