One of the most valuable pieces of sports memorabilia ever brought to auction, a circa 1920 Yankee’s jersey worn by Babe Ruth, was auctioned off Saturday night, by SCP Auctions of Laguna Niguel for $4,415,658 (including the 20% buyer’s premium), making it the most expensive piece of sports memorabilia ever sold! The pre auction estimate was about $2 million. With the sale of this jersey, the price beats out the famous T206 Honus Wagner tobacco baseball card sold by SCP Auction, for $2.8 million in 2007 and the $4.3 million sale of Dr. James Naismith’s Rules of Basketball by Sotheby’s 2010.
