Basketball Hall of Fame Original Enshrinement Plaques & More Up for Bid at Goldin Auctions

As part of Goldin Auctions’ partnership with the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame, we had the privilege in acquiring the original Hall of Fame portraits that were on display at the hallowed hall since as early as 2002. For our 2020 Winter Auction, we will make available the official portraits of Michael Jordan, Bob Cousy, Jerry West, Pete Maravich, Rick Barry, “Dr. J” Julius Erving, Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas, Patrick Ewing and Shaquille O’Neal. These portraits are in excellent condition and would be a great addition to any collection.

When a player is inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, there is an official Hall of Fame portrait produced and put on display in the gallery memorializing that player’s induction. These portraits that hung on display at the Hall of Fame when the athletes were inducted are the equivalent of the Hall of Fame plaques that hang in Cooperstown at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and capture the essence of the legendary player and are on display for the thousands of patrons that walk through the hallowed hall from year-to-year. However, with new renovations already underway, these official portraits are being made available to the public exclusively through Goldin Auctions. The pinnacle of any athlete’s career comes when he or she are selected into that sport’s Hall of Fame and for basketball, that ultimate journey ends in Springfield, Massachusetts at the aforementioned Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Named for the founder of basketball, Dr. James Naismith, the Hall of Fame is home to more than 400 inductees and over 40,000 square feet of basketball history.

As part of Goldin Auctions’ partnership with the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, the original official Hall of Fame portraits that were formerly on display at the dome-shaped exhibition hall since as early as 2002 are now available for auction. These are the very portraits that hung on display at the Hall of Fame when the athletes were inducted are the equivalent of the Hall of Fame plaques that hang in Cooperstown at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and capture the essence of each legendary player. However, with the Class of 2018, the space around the third floor of the dome where the original portraits were displayed, had been used up and the Class of 2018 portraits were displayed in a different spot. To adjust for the needed space, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame embarked on a $30 million renovation where all enshrined players would be housed in a different area and show the players in a digital form with more information at the ready. With new renovations already underway, these official portraits were removed and are now being made available to the public exclusively through Goldin Auctions.

“This is undoubtedly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own basketball history from the very place that celebrates and honors the greatest basketball players and contributors of the sport” said Ken Goldin, the founder and CEO of Goldin Auctions.

The portraits available in the current 2020 Winter Auction include Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Jerry West, Bob Cousy, Pete Maravich, Rick Barry, “Dr. J” Julius Erving, Isiah Thomas, Patrick Ewing and Shaquille O’Neal.

The auction is currently open for bidding and ends Saturday February 22nd.  https://goldinauctions.com/Category/Naismith_Basketball_Hall_of_Fame_Gallery_Plaques-251.html
