A 1963 Beatles Please Please Me album cover signed by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr led the latest music memorabilia results from Rockhurst Auctions, selling for $28,750. Authenticated by Beckett, the album cover attracted five bids and easily produced the highest price among the reported results. Complete Beatles autograph pieces remain among the most recognizable and sought after categories in music memorabilia.
Elvis Presley memorabilia claimed the next two positions. A large lock of Presley’s hair originating from his longtime hairdresser Homer “Gill” Gilleland sold for $8,625 after nine bids. The hair was presented on Gilleland’s trademark provenance card.
A 1956 Elvis Presley signed document for Elvis Presley Music, Inc., authenticated by Beckett, followed at $5,750.

Elvis Collectibles Combine for Strong Showing
Elvis Presley was particularly well represented among the leading results.
In addition to the $8,625 lock of hair and $5,750 signed corporate document, a high-grade 1954 Sun Records 209 78 RPM pressing of “That’s All Right” backed with “Blue Moon of Kentucky” realized $2,070 after six bids.
A 1956 original news-service photograph showing Presley on stage and signed by Scotty Moore and D.J. Fontana brought $1,380, while an Elvis-owned faux tortoiseshell triangular guitar pick bearing the initials “E.P.” and accompanied by a Graceland LOA sold for $1,200.
Those five Elvis-related lots combined for $19,025.
Hendrix and McCartney Top $2,000
A Jimi Hendrix cut signature accompanied by a JSA LOA drew 15 bids before selling for $2,415, making it the highest priced reported item outside the Beatles and Elvis material.
Paul McCartney remained represented separately from the fully signed Beatles album with a signed copy of The Polaroid Diaries by Linda McCartney. Authenticated by Beckett, the book realized $2,300.
Clapton, Garcia and Rolling Stones Among Additional Sales
Eric Clapton memorabilia produced multiple results. A signed and heavily inscribed 1978 Backless LP brought $1,610 after 15 bids, while a signed 1983 Money and Cigarettes LP realized $1,092.50 after 14 bids.
A Jerry Garcia cut signature authenticated by Beckett sold for $1,150, while Rolling Stones index cards signed by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood backstage at Chicago’s Checkerboard Lounge in 1981, accompanied by original photographs, reached $1,035.
An AC/DC “Who Made Who” magazine advertisement bearing five signatures brought $920, while a Britney Spears signed 2000 Oops!… I Did It Again CD sold for $805.
Two additional pieces each realized $747.50: a 1981 Chicago Fest poster signed by Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon and Johnny Winter, and a Johnny Cash “Guns Blazing” original photograph by Ken Davidoff.
Several significant pieces went unsold, including a Carl Perkins stage-played 1962 Epiphone Emperor E112T guitar, a Jerry Garcia original oil painting from the early 1960s, an Ace Frehley guitar with signed case, a Red Hot Chili Peppers band-signed photograph and The Clash’s band-signed “London Calling” 45.
The $28,750 Beatles signed Please Please Me album cover was the clear centerpiece of the results, while the depth of Elvis Presley material helped drive a strong showing for early rock and roll memorabilia.
