Only one week remains in the bidding process for a signed team photo of the legendary 1927 Yankees. Forty-seven signatures grace this baseball relic, which is one of many historic pieces offered in SCP Auctions first auction of the year. PHOTO INCLUDES SIGNATURES OF RUTH, GEHRIG, THE REST OF `MURDERER`S ROW` AND THE GREATEST TEAM EVER ASSEMBLED; AUCTION IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AND CONTINUES THROUGH JAN. 28
With a pre-sale estimate of $75,000-$100,000, the autographed 1927 Yankees photo is a rare one-of-a-kind piece as well as one of the finest photos available to collectors graded at PSA Mint 9.
Originally given by Yankees owner Jacob Ruppert to James Hanes, manager of the Hollywood Beach Hotel in Hollywood, Florida, as a token of Ruppert`s gratitude for his many visits during the winter and spring training, the photo changed hands to a family friend after Hanes passed away.
Dubbed `Murderer`s Row,` the 1927 Yankees outscored their opponents by nearly 400 runs and hit a staggering .307 as a team. Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig lead the New York powerhouse with Ruth setting his single-season home run record of 60 and Gehrig`s .373 batting average, 47 home runs and league leading 175 RBI`s. Coupled with a pitching staff that included four pitchers with 18 or more wins the Bronx Bombers won the American League pennant by 19 games and defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates in the World Series.
Other highlights from the auction include a rare 1916-1918 Harry Hooper Boston Red Sox jersey and an autographed, game-used 1955 Mickey Mantle jersey.
Each of the 600-plus items is featured on the SCP Auctions web site at www.SCPAuctions.com. The auction will be open to registered bidders on January 13 and concluding on January 28. For more information call (800) 350-2273.
