Vintage Photography: Our second grouping of Boston Herald original photography celebrates greatness. The Boston Herald contained some of the highest quality photos offered to date along with a fine variety of personal and candid images. To help you find these photographic gems, check out our new Boston Herald category, “A Tribute to…”
Perfect sized groupings and hand selected quality singles are categorized by player or team. Notables include Hank Aaron, Mickey Mantle & Roger Maris, Joe DiMaggio / Marilyn Monroe, Babe Ruth, Assorted Hall of Famers, Heroes in the Military, Cardinals, Red Sox, Cubs, Roberto Clemente, Hank Greenberg, Roy Campanella, and Sandy Koufax.
A very popular category is, “A Tribute to Hank Aaron”. Starting with his career in Milwaukee, the selection captures his early career and caps off his quest towards #715. Many dated homerun game photos are offered.
Lot #300 is quite remarkable. For those familiar with documentary film maker Ken Burns, we offer 60 Conlon images actually used in the production of the Burns film, “Baseball”.
“The Sporting News” photo archives, a staple in our photographic division, contain 245 original images, selected for our December Auction.
Game Used: Continuing our tradition of authentic, historic game worn/used items, hoops collectors should check out lot #752, 1968 Bill Bradley New York Knicks warm up jacket. According to our research, this is the earliest known Knicks item associated with the fabled career of Bill Bradley. The piece was once part of the Hard Rock Café exhibit.
Modern baseball jersey collectors know how rare documented post 1990’s items are to find. Lot #336, 1993 Bo Jackson Chicago White Sox game worn jersey was also part of the Hard Rock Café exhibit, and is the finest example known.
Always popular with MEARS bidders are our game used bat categories. 31 different bats, all fully authenticated and graded by MEARS, are found in our game worn bat section. Featured players include 1985 Cal Ripken Jr, 1989 Eddie Murray, 1990s Frank Thomas, 2011 Albert Pujols, and dozens of other rare and hard to find items. Finally, if you are looking to display your collection, we have a vintage 1950 Adirondack bat rack.
Homerun bats include 1996 Frank Thomas HR #4, 1997 Alex Rodriguez Post Season HR, 1997 Alex Rodriguez HR #16.
Autographs: For those that collect high quality limited edition lithographs, bats, and Perez Steele cards, this auction contains numerous lots of near mint signed items, all that have been authenticated by JSA. Highlights include UDA Jordan Autographs, Mantle & Williams lithographs, and Mickey Mantle & Ted Williams signed professional model bats. For those that like signed baseballs, two sweet spot signed Babe Ruth balls are offered along with a high grade 1950 New York Yankees team ball.
