About Us

MEARS Auctions is an internet based sales venue that operates out the 15,000 square foot MEARS Corporate Research and Conference Center located in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As a separate division within the MEARS structure, we can focus almost exclusively on obtaining and offering unique and quality sports and non-sports cards and memorabilia for your consideration.

Our auction cycle, combining both large and small events, allows us to ensure that we can offer something to all collectors, no matter their personal interests or budget. We do all this with the same level of commitment and integrity that collectors have become accustomed to associating with the MEARS name.

We finished the year with total sales of $1,560,000, and expect greater growth in 2011. Our January 2011 auction is already in the works. Items pledged for next year include more offerings from “The Sporting News” archives, a collection of 7,500+ fresh to the hobby golden/silver age comics, a collection of Bowman baseball card sets from 1948-1955, more high grade game used bats and jerseys, and several prominent collections originating directly from the estates of those individuals directly associated with professional sports. If January is too soon for you to sell your valued collectables, please feel free to contact us about getting your items to auction into the February or March venues. Bidders are looking for them and we want to be the ones to help you reach those collectors in 2011. Our most recent auction typifies what we have been working towards and highlights what 2011 holds for MEARS Auctions:

-Record Number of Consigners (up by 62% from January 2010)
-Record Number of Bidders (up by 72% from January 2010)
-Record Number of Bids in the December Auction (up by 200% from yearly average)
-Record Prices Realized (up by 214% from yearly average)

This was also one of our more diverse auctions featuring pre-war cards, thousands of rare photographs from the archives of The Sporting News, advertising pieces, awards and trophies, and game used items from all four major sports. Unlike other auction houses that host event 3-4 times, or even once a year, MEARS Auctions is a monthly venue which means more product for collectors to consider (our last five auctions have averaged over 1,700 lots with the December auction featuring over 2500). For consigners it also means a shorter turnaround from consignment to cash out. As soon as I say this, don’t let the number of lots fool you into thinking these are “trinket type” or left over offerings. This past year our monthly offerings have included:

1925 Ty Cobb Game Used Autographed Bat: $113,303
1966 Roberto Clemente Pittsburgh Pirates Home Jersey: $75,900
1927 Babe Ruth “Babe Comes Home” Movie Poster: $55,000
1981 Reggie Jackson New York Yankees Home Jersey: $31,189
1913-1914 Ty Cobb Game Used 40K Cork Gripped Bat: $30,596
1957 Lou Burdette Milwaukee Braves World Series Ring: $24,031

MEARS Auctions also has garnered the attention of the likes of “Mr. October” himself, as Reggie Jackson was personally on hand to help us open/dedicate our 15,000 square foot Research and Conference Center which is the home to MEARS Auctions. Mr. Jackson was also one of “signature consigners” for that auction as well.

The growth and success of MEARS Auctions has been directly related to the level of confidence we have been able to instill in those that have sought to do business with us either as bidders or consigners. Almost uniformly, they appreciate the efforts that MEARS has gone through to help educate and inform the hobby/industry in an unparalleled manner. The combination of quality product, quality and well researched evaluations, and the peace of mind that comes with dealing with the only auction house willing to subject itself to the scrutiny of an outside third-party accounting firm to audit our auction means bidder confidence which translates into higher prices realized.

We have worked hard to earn the trust and respect of the hobby/industry with respect to our evaluations and educational efforts. We stand ready and willing to work equally hard in bringing the right product to the right collectors through MEARS Auctions.
