David Wells’ Babe Ruth Cap Back On the Block

When Yankees pitcher David Wells put on a decades-old Babe Ruth cap in June of 1997, then trotted out to the mound to start the game, it was a little piece of the Babe was back in action. It was a plucky move by the often irreverent Wells, a guy who does indeed relish the game’s storied past. He wound up getting fined by manager Joe Torre, who made him take it off. Now, 15 years later, Wells has decided to put the cap and a number of other items he owns, up for auction.
