Legendary Auctions current auction will begin May 18, 2011 and end on May 25/26, 2011, with our preliminary preview now live on our website. (The catalog is at the printer, and will be in your hands shortly.) This quality sale is Legendary Auctions’ entry in what’s turned out to be a “rush hour” period for auction activity in the industry. We’re sure you’ll agree that the large and significant variety of offerings in this May auction is more than sufficient to hold its own against the season’s competition! Additionally, please note that we are actively accepting consignments for both our August Catalog and August Live Auctions. We’re setting aside some one-of-a-kind items for the Live auction! Even though this is the time of year that holds potential for “auction overload,” Legendary Auctions’ quarterly program allows us to be somewhat selective in what we offer. An example of how this benefits our bidders and consigners was encountered recently: we rescheduled the sale of a world-class collection of T210 Old Mills and Zeenuts, as these are being offered at auction elsewhere. They will now be featured in our auctions this summer.
The May sale is a wide-ranging auction, including more than 2,200 lots. In its content, collectors will find an incredible amount of freshly graded material, as we submitted well over 3,000 cards to PSA during this cycle. Highlights of the great collections featured include:
1952 Topps Complete Set, almost entirely graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. This superb offering – being made available as single cards in 407 individual lots – is displayed in a separate full-color, reference-style catalog.
Regional and Specialty Issues, including robust lots of meat cards (Stahl-Meyer, Hunter, Kahn’s and others), Bell Brand cards and ad pieces, Wheaties and Post Cereal boxes and panels, and more.
Outstanding 1959 to 1969 Topps Complete Sets, in a high-grade run containing sets that were assembled by Larry Frisch Cards in the early 1970s.
A Super Selection of PSA Set Registry Standouts, including an exceedingly rare 1913 Oakland Oaks Complete Set, a scarce 1922 V61 Neilson’s Chocolate Complete Set and a 1928 Exhibit Supply Co. “Pacific Coast League” Complete Set – all of which are ranked #1 on the PSA Set Registry!
Spectacular Photos, including a 1928 Yankees Panoramic Photo and a magnificent 10″ x 13″ matte finish studio portrait of Lou Gehrig from the 1930s.
Baltimore Orioles Memorabilia, in an incredible collection featuring game used pieces from Frank Robinson, Brooks Robinson, Jim Palmer and Cal Ripken, Jr.
Also: Nice runs of Topps Basketball and Football cards in high grade, top-quality Non-Sports sets and singles (including the coveted “Sea Raiders” high numbers and PSA MINT 9 examples in such classic series as “Mars Attacks” and “Gilligan’s Island”), and diverse collections of display boxes and salesman’s sample cards.
So, while it’s definitely a busy time of the year for auctions, please be sure to examine the many special and unique offerings in Legendary’s May 2011 sale. You’ll be very glad that you took the time to do it, and you’ll almost certainly find something fantastic for your collection!
