The leading trading cards, collectibles and memorabilia marketplace also announces today that it has partnered with Sorare, the company that is transforming online sports fandom through its global fantasy soccer game, to bring extremely rare and new Non-Fungible-Tokens (NFTs) to fans. Digital trading cards of the starting 11 players on the Belgian and French national soccer teams — currently the two best teams in the world as ranked by FIFA — are now available for bidding exclusively at goldinauctions.com.
Sorare is a popular NFT platform that blends the thrill of buying and selling officially licensed digital collectibles with the excitement and gamification of fantasy sports. Sorare players buy, sell, trade and manage a virtual soccer team with digital athlete cards and compete with each other based on athlete performance. The new collaboration — which is being announced amid massive global interest in sports collectibles, trading cards, blockchain technology and cryptocurrency — will enable soccer enthusiasts to bid on digital cards of international superstar players including Kevin De Bruyne, Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku, Kylian Mbappé, Antoine Griezmann, Paul Pogba and many others.
“Goldin Auctions and Sorare are revolutionizing the way fans across the world enjoy trading cards and collectibles and engage with sports and their favorite athletes,” said Sam Farber, head of business development and partnerships at Goldin Auctions. “The massive growth in sports trading cards and memorabilia has been mirrored by the explosive interest in NFTs and the possibilities for exciting new products revolving around both are endless. We couldn’t be more excited to lend our platform to provide fans from all over the world access to these incredible digital assets from Sorare.”
“There’s been a growing interest for soccer trading cards in the US with Ebay announcing a 1532% soccer trading growth sales in 2020. We’ve seen this first-hand with many more US based-fantasy players joining Sorare” explained Nicolas Julia, CEO at Sorare. “We’re very excited to partner with the leading trading cards, memorabilia and collectibles platform in the world to auction cards from two best soccer teams in the world with once in a generation players such as Kevin de Bruyne and Kylian Mbappé”
This new NFT auction comes on the heels of the final match of the 2020 UEFA European Championship. Three teams out of the 32 teams that participated have created NFTs: Belgium, France and Germany. Sorare cards come in different scarcities: each football player has 100 Rare cards (red colour), 10 Super Rare cards (blue color), and a single Unique card (black card). For this auction, all cards sold on Goldin Auctions are collectible type of items, the 100/100, 10/10 or unique card of Kevin De Bruyne.
Launched in 2018, Sorare uses blockchain technology based on Ethereum. The company caters to more than two billion global soccer fans and currently has 90,000 monthly active users from 140 countries. Over 140 soccer clubs from the United States, Europe, and Asia have licensed their players’ information to Sorare with new clubs joining the platform every week. Since January, Sorare has sold more than $80 million worth of digital assets.
Earlier this year, Goldin Auctions also announced a new integration with the Winklevoss-owned cryptocurrency exchange and custodian, Gemini. The agreement enables users to buy and sell trading cards and other collectibles with Bitcoin and Ethereum.
