Goldin Sells Namath Rookie Original Photo For Record Price

Goldin, the leading collectibles marketplace, announces a record-breaking sales from its November 2023 Elite Auction, the only known PSA Type I photo used to create Joe Namath’s 1965 Topps rookie card.  The 8×10 photo was taken by Bob Olen, the New York Jets team photographer and sold for $197,640.

The surging interest in Type 1 authentic photography, first-generation prints made from the original negatives, is now reaching record-levels of enthusiasm across the industry. These photographs are widely regarded as the most valuable and sought-after category in sports photography due to their historical significance and the way they were produced.

Goldin’s November Elite Legends Auction also included a 1967 Muhammad Ali/Wilt Chamberlain dual signed Type 1 photo from the ‘Wide World of Sports’ fight promotional appearance, which captures the two legends sparring on stage (sold for $17,080), a 1984-85 Michael Jordan Rookie signed Type 1 photo with Kodak back stamps dating March of 1985 ($17,080), and a 1994 Tiger Woods Type 1 photo — a pivotal year for Woods as he graduated high school and secured the title of the youngest U.S. Amateur Championship winner ($7,595).
