Heritage Auctions Sports Card Catalog Auction Ends September 29-30, 2022

Bid in The Heritage Auctions Sports Card Catalog Auction Ends September 29-30, 2022. There are 1,300+ sports card lots on the auction block. Bid, view and register at sports.ha.com. It has been only days since Heritage Auctions set the record for the world’s most valuable sports collectible: the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle SGC Mint+ 9.5, which sold for $12.6 million. Yet already it’s time for the Sept. 29-30 Sports Card Catalog Auction, which is flush with more than 1,300 offerings ranging from cherished icons to coveted rarities – and, yes, even a 1952 Topps Mantle or five not likely to top any record books but sure to upgrade any collection.

Here in no particular order are a few highlights from an auction full of them – not merely one of the greatest cards featuring The Greatest Quarterback of All Time, but a few must-haves … including a box of Garbage Pail Kids you’d never, ever toss in the trash.

2000 Playoff Contenders Tom Brady (Championship Ticket) Rookie No. 144 BGS NM-MT+ 8.5, Auto 10, numbered 95/100

This is Tom Brady’s most desirable rookie format – limited to 100! This is No.  95 of that minimal supply. Of the 81 examples submitted to Beckett for assessment, only seven have graded higher than this NM-MT+ 8.5. All seven earned a Mint 9 rating; none at the 9.5 or 10 levels. And it sports an unimprovable 10 autograph from The GOAT.

1941 Play Ball Ted Williams No. 14 PSA Mint 9

This 1941 entry pays homage to the year Williams became the last player to crest the .400 mark. More than 1,150 have been submitted to PSA, and not a single one has surpassed this PSA Mint 9.

1952 Topps Mickey Mantle No. 311 PSA EX-MT 6

Little needs to be said about The Hobby’s most expensive and beloved card at this late date. This one is an aesthetically pleasing EX-MT 6. But it’s a trophy no matter the grade.

1979 O-Pee-Chee Wayne Gretzky Rookie No. 18 PSA Mint 9

Heritage set a record price of $1.2 million only two weeks ago for one of just two PSA 10 Gretzky Topps rookies. This PSA 9 example is coming up for auction at the perfect time to get the most out of the grade. Still a great one. From The Great One.

2003 Panini Mega Craques Cristiano Ronaldo Rookie No. 137 PSA Gem Mint 10

This is one of the most desirable rookie debuts featuring the soccer icon. Ronaldo’s resume includes seven league titles, five Ballon d’Or awards, four European Golden Shoes and the records for most appearances (183), goals (140) and assists (42) in the Champions League, as well as international goals (117) and international appearances by a European (189). Whew. With the soccer collectible market exploding, this example will see fireworks when it closes Sept. 30.

1925 Exhibits Lou Gehrig Rookie SGC Good+ 2.5

It’s one of the most important baseball debuts – and one of the rarest. Only 60 Gehrig rookies appear in the combined PSA and SGC populations, making this one of the most desirable cards in The Hobby.

2015 Panini National Treasures Nikola Jokić (Rookie Autograph-Emerald) #152 PSA Mint 9, Auto 9, Numbered 1/5

This is No. 1 of just five National Treasures Emerald Jokić rookies, and it sports a PSA 9 autograph from the back-to-back NBA MVP.

1935 Muratti Cigarettes Jesse Owens Rookie No. 49 PSA NM-MT 8

This is an incredible rarity from one of the most influential figures in sports history. This 1935 Muratti Cigarettes rookie is the only Owens card issued before his legendary performance in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.

1985 Topps Garbage Pail Kids Series 1 Wax Box with 48 Unopened Packs

Non-sports cards have been growing in popularity and value over the last few years, and the Garbage Pail Kids issue is one of the big movers in that genre. This unopened Series 1 box will clear $20,000 when it closes on Sept. 30, an unimaginable sum just a few years ago.

1981 Michael Jordan NCAA Debut UNC vs. Kansas Ticket Stub, PSA VG 3

This has been a colossal year for ticket prices, especially those from Michael Jordan’s career. This is a unique example, the higher graded of just two known examples from MJ’s collegiate debut. The lanky freshman saw his first NCAA action in a win over powerhouse Kansas on Nov. 28, 1981.
