DALLAS, TEXAS:Â Heritage Auction Galleries held its latest Sports Collectibles Signature Auction on Friday and Saturday, October 26th and 27th, 2007, in Dallas, Texas. The auction realized $2,752,208 for 966 lots, although after-auction sales are still ongoing and could push the total even higher.
“Usually it’s baseball that gets all the glory in sports collectibles auctions,” explained Chris Ivy, Director of Sports Collectibles Auctions for Heritage Auction Galleries, “but this event saw some major challengers from beyond the diamond. The golf bag that carried Tiger Woods’ clubs to his first Masters tournament victory in 1997 set a modern golf auction record at $89,625.” Ivy also pointed to remarkable results for game worn basketball jerseys, with Nate “Tiny” Archibald’s Kansas City Kings shirt realizing $17,925 and a Lebron James’ St. Vincent/St. Mary’s high school jersey almost doubling the next highest established major auction result at $8,365.
Vintage baseball jerseys likewise posted remarkable results in the Heritage auction. “The jersey believed to be the last Hank Aaron wore in Milwaukee before the Braves moved to Atlanta sold for $59,750,” noted Ivy. “And a price of $11,950 for Tommy Henrich’s 1949 home New York Yankees jersey is far and away the highest ever realized for Old Reliable’s gamer.”
