Huggins and Scott’s Second Auction of 2016 In Progress – Ends May 19, 2016Huggins and Scott’s 2016 “Event of the Year”, the August Auction, will open for bidding on Monday August 1st and close on Thursday night August 11th with the 30 minute rule beginning at 11:00pm ET.

1933_goudey_signed_collectionWe open the auction with 145 lots from a remarkable “fresh to the hobby” collection of period-signed 1933 Goudey baseball cards, including Babe Ruth, Jimmie Foxx, Eddie Collins and the “Holy Grail” – Earl Clark, who died in a car accident in 1938, just five years after this card was produced.

Vintage baseball card collectors will enjoy an abundance of pre-and-post war rarities including professionally graded and raw 97086_1951_bowman_mantle_rookieexamples of cards from a variety of designations, including Honus Wagner, Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Christy Mathewson, Cy Young, Shoeless Joe Jackson and more; a number of graded and ungraded tobacco and candy cards offered as singles and in lots, and much more. Highlights include: a newly discovered, previously uncatalogued 1887 Four Base Hits Tobacco Jimmy Ryan card; a terrific T206 Ty Cobb Green Portrait SGC 60; solid mid-grade 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth’s, all EX 5 or VG-EX 4 and many more.

The post-war collection is substantial as well with an unusually large number of singles, lots, complete and near sets from 1948 to present. Highlights include: a nice 1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle rookie card (PSA 8 oc); a 1951 Bowman baseball collection of 215 different cards each graded PSA NM-MT 8 with no qualifiers; a 1952 Bowman baseball collection of 184 different cards each graded PSA NM-MT 8 with no qualifiers; a gorgeous 1952 Tip Top Bread Mantle label; a remarkable 1953 Hunter Wieners St. Louis Cardinals complete set of (26); an attractive 1955 Topps Roberto Clemente rookie SGC 80 EX-MT 6; a 1956 98729_1960_topps_cello_boxTopps Sandy Koufax PSA 9 (only one better); 1968 Topps Nolan Ryan rookie (PSA 8); an absolutely incredible, newly discovered 1960 Topps baseball unopened cello box of 36 packs including one with a Yaz rookie on top; a 1961 Topps baseball complete set with each card graded PSA NM-MT 8 with no qualifiers; a tremendous collection of 1993 Topps Finest baseball Refractors, each graded PSA MINT 9 including Ryan, Griffey, Ripken, and much more. As always, we also present a plethora of wonderful “shoebox” collections (always a crowd favorite).

This auction has a large number of baseball autographed items highlighted by the aforementioned 1933 Goudey signed card collection; the fourth and final installment of the “We Are The Champions” section featuring team-signed baseballs from a number of World Series Champions from 1922-1938, including the coveted 1927 Yankees and an exceptional 1928 Yankees each with Ruth and Gehrig; multiple examples of single-signed Babe Ruth baseballs, including one PSA/DNA graded 5.5; one of the nicest Ruth & Gehrig dual-signed baseballs in existence; a stunning Gehrig cut signature graded PSA MINT 9; an extremely rare Alexander Cartwright 1879 signed receipt; a spectacular Ruth signed original Art Brewster cartoon sketch; a near impossible 1997 Great Moments Richie Ashburn signed card (PSA/DNA 10); a terrific 1913 Giants/White Sox World Tour signed baseball with McGraw, Comiskey, B.
