The auction came to a close Sunday, July 27th and I’ll highlight some of the results (includes buyers commission) – the Brooks Robinson game used glove (circa 1960) from the Vincent Greco collection went for $18,119, the Jim Palmer game used glove also from the Vincent Greco Collection (circa 1968-70) went for $3,250, the Jackie Robinson multi-signed baseball went for $5,175, the Babe Ruth baseball (signed to a fan) went for $5,808 and the 1971 World Series original line-up card (with Roberto Clemente batting third) went for $1,277. Please don’t hesitate to check out the other Ironclad Legends Auction item results.Â
It was our first major themed vintage memorabilia auction, it was a great success, exciting and a rewarding experience for all of us at Ironclad! It was exciting because we took many of the Legends memorabilia items with us when we exhibited at the MLB’s All-Star Game FanFest in New York, to Mother’s newly redesigned restaurant here in Baltimore and of course, up to Cooperstown for Induction Weekend where we annually set up within the Cooperstown Bat Company. Talking about the items we were promoting stimulated the start of many, many stories from families who wanted to explain to their kids or grandkids who the players were that wore the game used gloves, signed the contracts or how exciting it was to see a Babe Ruth signed baseball!
We were very pleased by the response and results of our real first solo effort. Last year we co-promoted a vintage memorabilia auction with Morphy’s that was very successful but this year it was very special because we launched our auction portal platform this past April and it has been extremely active since the launch. We thank you for the support!
However, we are not finished with vintage auctions for this year. We still have quite a few game used gloves from the Vincent Greco Collection, including the former great Orioles first baseman and Hall of Famer Eddie Murray, Mark Belanger, Tippy Martinez, Rick Dempsey, Mike Cuellar, Dave McNally, Andy Etchebarren, Paul Blair, Dan Ford to name just a few that we will put up for auction with dates soon to be determined. Check back, if you register with our e-mail database you will receive plenty of notice when the on-line auction will take place.
