Julien’s Auctions December Auction Soars past $3.9 Million in Sales

Julien’s Auctions Icons and Idols Sports and Rock ‘n Roll  auction that closed December 3, 2011 landed many auction highlights in the $3.9 million dollar sale. Highlighted items include a world record price for a prototypes of the original Coca-Cola bottle which sold for $240,000, collection of Marilyn Monroe photos and negatives from her first photo shoot $352,000, Michael Jordan’s original John Wooden Award that sold for $28,800, and much more. Copyrights and images from Marilyn Monroe’s first photo shoot sold for $352,000 at an auction that included items from Lady Gaga and John Lennon.

Julien’s Auctions spokeswoman Caroline Galloway tells The Associated Press on Sunday that the Monroe photos – taken in 1946 when she was still Norma Jeane Dougherty – were the highlight of the Beverly Hills auction known as “Icons & Idols”

The photos come with negatives and the rare right to sell and distribute them. A judge in September ruled they must be auctioned to settle debts of photographer Joseph Jasgur.

A Lady Gaga dress sold for $31,250, and the prop gun used in her video for “Born This Way” went for $7,680.

A 1969 caricature John Lennon drew of himself and Yoko Ono went for $90,000.

The prototype for Coca-Cola’s iconic curvy bottle, produced 86 years ago, was sold at auction Saturday for $240,000.Brad Dean, the grandson of the bottle’s designer Earl R. Dean, said the bottle is one of two in existence.  The other bottle is owned by the Atlanta-based Coca-Cola Co.  The contour Coca-Cola prototype bottle was designed by Dean 96 years ago. His original concept drawing was also sold, for $228,000.
