Legendary Auctions Annual Summer Sports Memorabilia LIVE Auction Now Available For Preview

The Legendary Auctions Summer Live Auction Event is scheduled for Friday, August 6, 2010 at the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore, MD. This Auction is  limited to just 82 lots of truly significant offerings of the finest sports memorabilia.  This auction includes a wide array of game used uniforms, memorabilia, historical artifacts and rare sports cards. The Master of Ceremonies will be Hall of Fame Baltimore Orioles Third Baseman Brooks Robinson. The auction is currently available for preview www.legendaryauctions.com with bidding begining on July 26, 2010 and concluding in the Live Auction format in Baltimore on August 6th. Items will be on display at the Legendary booth #1717 and #1721 during the National Sports Collectors Convention. Highlights include:

Historic 1924 Frankie Frisch World Tour Game Worn Jersey – Estimate: $80,000-100,000
In the fall of 1924, at the conclusion of their season, the reigning National League Champion New York Giants were chosen to represent American baseball on a World Tour. One of the highlights of the tour was a meeting with the King of England during a match held on British soil. This flannel jersey was worn by Frisch during that once-in-a-lifetime excursion.

1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle Rookie Card – PSA NM-MT 8 – Estimate: $60,000-80,000
In terms of percentage, this splendid showpiece is among the 5% most-elite Topps Mantle rookies in the hobby. The ’52 Topps Mantle is desired by all, and sought-after by virtually every collector, but quality examples can be possessed only by very few. A card like this one, with its outstanding magnitude of projection, exquisitely refined colors and general top-grade state, tantalizes the enthusiast who is seeking a centerpiece.

1933 Goudey #149 Babe Ruth – PSA NM-MT+ 8.5 – The Highest-Graded Example! –  Estimate: $60,000-80,000
No example of this card has ever been awarded a higher, unqualified grade. As tribute to Ruth’s undisputed sovereignty, his likeness was featured on four different 1933 Goudey cards, more than any other player. This 1933 Goudey #149, the “red background,” is among the scarcest and most hotly pursued of the coveted quartet, and this particular, elite card is an incontestably superb representation of its type.

1952 Topps #1 Andy Pafko – PSA NM-MT 8 – Estimate: $60,000-80,000
The most valuable “common” baseball card on earth is one that’s virtually never seen in high grade. An extreme condition rarity, the offered piece has a pack-fresh appearance with perfect gloss and razor-sharp edges.

1869 Peck & Snyder Trade Card – Cincinnati Red Stockings – SGC 40 VG 3 – Estimate: $40,000-50,000
The importance of this singular baseball card cannot be overstated. This is an example of the famous Peck & Snyder trade card from 1869, picturing baseball’s first professional team. Although allegations circulated at the time that some individual players accepted payment for their services, baseball was an amateur sport prior to 1869. The Cincinnati Red Stockings were the first team to openly declare that their ballplayers were compensated. The history of the professional game, as well as the origin of our hobby, is personified in this historically important foundation piece.

Babe Ruth Single Signed Ball – PSA DNA NM 7 – Estimate: $20,000-25,000
This is a positively stupendous sweet spot signing by baseball’s grandest patriarch, Babe Ruth. It is a late life autograph appearing on an OAL (Harridge) sphere. The compelling allure of this treasure is the nearly perfect autograph. In terms of purity and bold contrast, very few equal it.

2004 Boston Red Sox World Champions Game Used Jerseys Collection (16) Including Ortiz, Ramirez, Schilling, Martinez – Estimate: $20,000-25,000
The story behind the offered gallery of garments occupies a sacred place within the hearts of baseball’s romantics. Indeed, it was with poignant irony that the Boston Red Sox overcame a three games-to-none deficit against the New York Yankees in the 2004 ALCS, en route to their first World Series title in 86 years. In overtaking their Bronx Bomber rivals and ultimately securing a league championship, the Carmines erased decades’ worth of misery and the memories of countless near-misses — baseball sentimentalists accordingly declared the “Curse of the Bambino” lifted! This incredible array of 16 game worn jerseys stands as an unbelievable, highly visual celebration of Boston’s colossal triumph.

Brooks Robinson Late-1960s Baltimore Orioles Signed Game Worn Wool Warm-Up Jacket – Estimate: $6,000-8,000
The garment was made by “Spalding” and bears that company’s red-white-and-blue manufacturer’s label within the lower zipper patch trail. The garment also features a size “50” tag sewn in tandem with the principle Spalding label and an orange number “5” in the same location. The bright orange nylon lining is intact, and the black wool outer body concedes no holes or tears of any kind. The piece has been signed in black marker (“9”) on the right-side flourish of “Orioles” on the chest. An outstanding Brooks Robinson apparel piece, it is photo-matched to Getty Image 51453732 (dated October 1, 1969).
