Lelands is auctioning off one of the most significant hockey card scores in case break history. In their Spring Classic Auction this June, Lelands offers a PSA MINT 9 Connor McDavid rookie autographed patch card that was pulled this past December from a Jaspy’s break of 2015-16 The Cup Hockey. Remarkably, and the height of coincidences, this RPA is numbered 97 out of 99, and Connor McDavid’s jersey number is 97.
For the uninitiated, RPA stands for “rookie patch autograph” card. Most RPAs have limited runs, usually to 99 like this one, and are extremely valuable to collectors. The fact that it’s Connor McDavid, one of the most prolific scorers in the NHL, makes this RPA even more valuable. Many consider it the holy grail of the modern era, and the single best modern-day hockey card one can own.
The card comes with the original tin box it was pulled from, and the Jaspy’s card breaker even signed the box. It is hard to imagine how the break winner felt at the time, but the winning bidder on this item is going to find out. The thrill of owning perhaps the most important modern hockey RPA is truly a rare opportunity to experience.
