Winter Classic Auction Expert Picks:
Lot # 786: 1931 Al Capone “Take Us Out to the Ball Game” Iconic Type I Photo w/ Hartnett
“In all my years of photo collecting this has always been my favorite. Interestingly enough it’s also extremely rare in that of all the photo archives we have broken down through the years this image has only been in a handful. Maybe because of the controversial nature, joining the clean-cut image of the National Game with the darkest side of organized crime. So much so, this image of the Cubs HOF catcher palling around with Scarface ended with Gabby being called into the Commissioner’s office. In this case Hartnett was a little too ‘Gabby.'”
Lot # 507: 1970 Topps Baseball Supers Unopened Box (MINT)
“I love unopened boxes. Especially the idea that this went untouched for almost 50 years. I love MINT stuff and this is about as cherry as they come. Plus, I’m a big Pete Rose collector and his photo dominates the top of this box. ‘Nuff said.”
Lot # 732: 1954 Roberto Clemente Contract with his Fingerprints (PSA)
“DNA makes two appearances in this lot: one being a PSA/DNA letter for the Roberto Clemente signature, and the other is Clemente’s actual fingerprint! Not only is this 1954 contract signed by the Pirate legend, but also by his dad and includes his dad’s fingerprint as well. Very unique playing contract from Clemente’s days before the Pirates.”
