The 2007 Preakness Stakes owner’s trophy awarded for Curlin’s victory led the latest Leland’s Summer Classic Auction ended August 15, 2026, selling for $92,483 after 20 bids. Opening at $30,000, the trophy emerged from an exceptionally competitive group of high-end sports artifacts to claim the auction’s top spot. Curlin defeated Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense in a memorable stretch duel to win the 2007 Preakness, one of the defining performances of the Hall of Fame racehorse’s career.
Finishing only $433 behind the Curlin trophy was a late-1930s Lou Gehrig single-signed baseball, authenticated by PSA, which realized $92,050 after 49 bids. The ball opened at $5,000 before intense bidding pushed it above $90,000. Gehrig also captured the auction’s third-highest result, giving the New York Yankees legend two of the top three sales.
A 1933 Lou Gehrig New York Yankees player contract, authenticated by PSA, brought $90,190 after 42 bids. The contract opened at $10,000 and finished less than $2,000 behind the auction-leading Curlin trophy. Combined, the two premier Gehrig artifacts generated $182,240.
Boxing legend Marvin Hagler was another major force in the auction. His 1980 WBA Middleweight Championship belt from his title-winning victory over Alan Minter sold for $80,670, while Hagler’s photo-matched trunks worn in multiple fights from 1978-1980, including the Minter championship bout, realized $77,503.
A rare Michael Jordan insert also generated significant interest. The 1996 Flair Showcase Basketball Legacy Collection Row 0 #23 Michael Jordan, numbered 24/150 and graded PSA 8.5, sold for $75,729 after 19 bids.

Just outside the Top 10, a September 30, 1972 Roberto Clemente 3,000th-hit full ticket graded PSA VG 3 (MK) attracted 36 bids and sold for $48,815. The historic ticket dates to Clemente’s final regular-season hit, when the Pittsburgh Pirates legend recorded career hit No. 3,000 against the New York Mets.
The auction also demonstrated the breadth of demand for milestone-related memorabilia. Ohtani’s photo-matched base from his historic 50/50 game brought $73,812, while the Clemente 3,000th-hit ticket reached $48,815. Meanwhile, the 1957 Topps unopened basketball pack showed the continued strength of rare unopened material with its $70,666 result.
