Mile High Card Company’s May 19th Auction To Offer A Bounty Of High Grade Cards And Memorabilia

Mile High Card Co starting on April 28th, will open bidding for its Spring 2011 auction, which closes May 19th. A preview of the auction was featured several days before the auction was to go live and was met with an exceptional amount of interest and excitement surrounding the extensive, nearly 2400 lot offering. MHCC President and CEO Brian Drent believes the sale is by far the most thorough event of the firms 15 year existence. When asked to assess the auction, Drent responded with the one word that best describes the sale, “thorough.”

The catalogs copies, which were mailed out prior to the start of the auction on April 25th, reads as much like a coffee table book as it does an auction catalog with tremendous content and interesting well written descriptions throughout. The auction is buoyed by an extensive array of high- grade singles for which MHCC is well known, but also includes a tremendous selection of high- grade complete sets and groups, non- sports material, autographs, game- worn collectibles, photographs, and unopened material. All of this makes the Spring MHCC auction a collecting event for enthusiasts from every genre of our hobby.

A few of the highlights from this extensive offering are the following: A 1909-11 E90-1 American Caramel near complete 119/120 set that is completely SGC graded; a stunning newly- discovered example of an 1888 Joseph Hall cabinet featuring the New York Ball Club including six HOFers; a spectacular copy of Joe Jackson’s 1914 Cracker Jack pasteboard that has been assessed a PSA 7 NM grade; a 1933 Goudey #181 Babe Ruth SGC 88(8) NM/MT; a marvelous group of 1887 N172 Old Judge cards including HOFers Rusie, Welch, Comiskey, Duffy, and Ewing; a gorgeous 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle SGC 86(7.5) NM+, as well as a beautiful 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle that has been graded NM 7 PSA; also offered in the auction is a magnificent collection of New York Yankee cards that have all been graded by PSA with many exceptionally low- population PSA 9’s and 10’s; as well the sale features the number one all -time finest 1952 Bowman Small Football complete set that will be sold to highest aggregate bid(s); also featured is a magnificent copy of Wayne Gretzky’s 1979 OPC rookie card that has been graded GEM MINT 98(10) by SGC; the MHCC sale also features a stunning assemblage of non-sports cards highlighted by the #5 All Time Finest 1938 Horrors Of War complete set on the PSA Set Registry.

Absolutely not taking a backseat to the compendious cardboard offering, the current Mile High catalog also features some wonderful pieces of memorabilia highlighted by the following items: a stupendous 1957 St. Louis Cardinals Stan Musial game- worn full home uniform; an extraordinary 1927 New York Yankess World Champions Panoramic Photograph; an awe-inspiring single signed Babe Ruth ball with a JSA LOA; as well as an exceptionally rare 1914 W. B. Jarvis Ty Cobb advertising cabinet; and a sublime and thoroughly impressive 1960’s Baltimore Colts game used jersey from Johnny Unitas.

As is always the case with a Mile High Card Company auction there is literally something for everyone, from the pre-war enthusiasts to post-war collectors, from the high-grade aficionados to collector- grade type hobbyists. According to MHCC’s Managing Director of Acquisitions, Andy Madec, the current Mile High auction is an all- encompassing event that will satisfy many different types of collectors.

All of the aforementioned highlights as well as the rest of the nearly 2400 lots are available for bidding on the company’s website at or by contacting MHCC via telephone at (303) 840-2784. As previously mentioned all catalogs have been shipped for this auction and bidding will culminate May 19th.
