PSA and PSA/DNA Authentication Services will have on display a multi-million dollar exhibit of
T206 Hall of Fame players’ cards and offer a free commemorative poster of the T206 set during the 30th National Sports Collectors Convention in Cleveland. There also will be PSA displays of other rare sports collectibles, a salute to Cleveland as home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum with an array of Beatles memorabilia and displays of other non-sports memorabilia, including Three Stooges items.
“This year is the 100th anniversary of the 1909 introduction of the famous T206 tobacco cards. We’ll be displaying dozens of the Hall of Fame players from this classic set. It is the finest known collection of its kind and will soon be listed in the PSA Set Registry,” said Joe Orlando, president of PSA and PSA/DNA. “This will be one of the finest and most diverse displays we’ve ever been privileged to showcase at a National convention.”
The collection of 1909-11 T206 White Border HOF Players contains all four Ty Cobb varieties, as well as the three Christy Mathewson and Cy Young varieties. It is virtually complete, with Honus Wagner and Eddie Plank rarities as the only Hall of Fame players missing from the historic group.
Other displays at the PSA booth (No. 1447) at the show will be high-grade cards of star players in the 1954 Bowman and 1957 and 1958 Topps sets. Baseball icons memorabilia that will be shown include two certified checks related to the 1919 sale of Babe Ruth’s to the New York Yankees and a superb Ruth autographed ball graded PSA 9. PSA displays will also include Beatles’ autographs, original photographs and certified 1960s-era concert tickets.
“We’ll also have autographs and collectibles from a non-sports category, including a group of cards from the finest 1959 Fleer Three Stooges set in the world,” Orlando said. “This set was voted as the most important non-sports set in the hobby during an online PSA poll.”
PSA will offer on-site grading at the convention and PSA/DNA autograph experts will be available to authenticate previously-signed autographs on site. Buyers of the Super VIP admission package to the convention can receive from free grade from PSA for any card with a declared value of less than $1,200.
