Nirvana Takes the Top Spot

The $8,500 Nirvana photograph stood out both for its price and its complete group of signatures.

Dating to 1991, the year Nirvana released Nevermind, the photograph features signatures from Cobain, Novoselic and Grohl. Fully signed material from the band’s best-known lineup remains especially notable because Cobain’s death in 1994 permanently limited the supply of complete Nirvana autograph pieces.

Jethro Tull’s Aqualung Crushes Estimate

The biggest surprise of the group was a Jethro Tull group signed Aqualung album carrying three signatures and authenticated by Beckett.

Estimated at only $100-$200, the album soared to $1,600, selling for eight times its $200 high estimate.

A complete set of four autograph cuts from The Who, including the late Keith Moon, also performed well. Authenticated by Beckett and PSA/DNA, the group-signed set realized $1,800 against a $1,000-$2,000 estimate.

Jimmy Page Items Bring $2,700 Combined

Two pieces signed by Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page were among the stronger results.

A Page-signed Led Zeppelin II album brought $1,900, just below its $2,000 high estimate. A large 32.5-by-30.25-inch signed limited-edition lithograph, numbered 230 of 300 and authenticated by JSA, sold for $800.

Together, the two Jimmy Page collectibles accounted for $2,700.

Other reported sales included a Runaways group-signed Queens of Noise album with five signatures at $950, a Neil Young & Crazy Horse group-signed promotional photograph at $900 and a Steely Dan photograph signed by two members at $850.

Several notable pieces were listed as ended without a selling price in the supplied results, including a Tom Petty signed Damn the Torpedoes graphics guitar, a Keith Richards signed Rolling Stones-themed guitar, an Eddie Vedder signed Vs. graphics guitar, a fully group-signed album by The Cars, and a Bruce Springsteen signed Born in the U.S.A. album.
