Oscar’s Collection, Wilt’s 100-Point Scoresheet Lead Way in SCP Auctions’ 2019 Spring Premier

The market has spoken for three fresh items offered to the hobby for the first time. The official scoresheet from Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point game and two coveted 1960 Olympic pieces from the Oscar Robertson Collection yielded the highest prices for SCP Auctions in their 2019 Spring Premier Auction that ended late Saturday, April 27th.  The home official scorer’s sheet from Wilt’s epic performance when he reached the century mark against the Knicks in Hershey, PA on March 2, 1962, sold for $214,579.

Scored for the Philadelphia Warriors by team statistician Toby DeLuca, who kept the scoresheet for half a century until his passing, the sheet was signed by the Big Dipper – mostly likely that same evening according to PSA/DNA – and has been specifically referenced in best-selling author Gary Pomerantz’s book, WILT, 1962. The final price more than doubles the result of New York’s visiting team scoresheet from the game that sold in 2012.

“Wilt’s 100-point game is widely considered the single greatest individual feat in sports history,” says SCP’s Auction Director Brendan Wells. “Few mementos from the seemingly mythological game have survived. This scoresheet, with such well-documented provenance, may be the most important, authentic piece that collectors ever have a chance to acquire. It certainly got the price it deserves.”

Among the sixty items listed from Robertson’s personal collection, two reached six figures to headline a combined total of $400,000 in prices realized for “The Big O.” The game ball used in the 1960 Olympic Final in Rome, signed by the entire USA Gold Medal squad including Oscar and Jerry West, went for $133,235, while Oscar’s complete blue uniform from the same game achieved $146,558. Robertson plans to donate a portion of his proceeds to the Jerome Lipper Multiple Myeloma Center and LeBow Institute for Myeloma Therapeutics at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

Card highlights included $73,296 for a 1948 Leaf Jackie Robinson rookie graded PSA NM-MT 8 and $60,667 for the newly crowned, all-time finest 1922 American Caramel E121 set with 103 of a possible 125 cards. Other top results were as follows:

  • $91,151 for Oscar Robertson’s 1971 Milwaukee Bucks NBA World Champions ring
  • $45,693 for a 1941 Joe DiMaggio game-used bat attributed to his 56-game hitting streak
  • $44,428 for Oscar Robertson’s 1960 Olympic Team USA Hall of Fame Induction ring
  • $41,372 for Oscar Robertson’s 1959 Pan-Am Games worn full uniform
  • $26,669 for Oscar Robertson’s 1960’s Cincinnati Royals game-worn shooting shirt
  • $26,669 for Ozzie Smith’s 1987 St. Louis Cardinals NL Champions ring
