PWCC February Premier Auction Recap

PWCC Marketplace, the leading trading card marketplace for buyers and sellers, is excited to announce the results of its February Premier Auction.  This month’s Premier Auction featured 288 cards across baseball, basketball, football, hockey, golf, soccer, Pokémon, Marvel, and more. Total auction sales were $17,550,000.

Multiple records and interesting price points were set in the auction:

  • Brady in demand post-retirement: As expected, several exciting sales points were notched for Tom Brady in the auction. Most notable is this 2000 Playoff Contenders Championship Ticket Tom Brady Rookie Auto that sold for $2,040,000https://www.pwccmarketplace.com/premier-auction/1921 and this 2016 Panini Prizm Black Finite Prizms Tom Brady 1/1 that sold for $240,000https://www.pwccmarketplace.com/premier-auction/2182
  • McDavid sets new modern hockey high: Connor McDavid set a new record price for one of his trading cards with a $144,000 sale on Feb. 19 in the PWCC Premier Auction: https://www.pwccmarketplace.com/premier-auction/1953 The 2015 The Cup Exquisite Collection Connor McDavid Rookie Jersey Patch Autograph card that set the record is one of just 97 cards ever created for the set – limited in its print run to match the number one draft pick’s jersey number.

The sale sets a record for his personal card and eclipses high sales records of recent greats such as Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin. In fact, the price places McDavid as a top seller in “modern” hockey cards and puts him among top priced hockey player cards of all-time with legends such as Gretzky, Howe, and Orr.

  • Baseball is back: While the start of the baseball season remains in flux, collectors aren’t waiting to pursue big time cards. One highlight from the February Premier Auction is this 2009 Bowman Chrome Gold Refractor Mike Trout Rookie Auto numbered to 50 that set a for card record of $528,000 – the third highest price ever paid for any Mike Trout card: https://www.pwccmarketplace.com/premier-auction/2132
  • This 2018 Bowman Chrome Orange Refractor Shohei Ohtani Rookie Auto numbered to 25 set a for card record of $156,000 – the third highest price ever paid for any Shohei Ohtani cardhttps://www.pwccmarketplace.com/premier-auction/2285 And, because this is Ohtani, an interesting note is that this is the highest price paid for a card of him at the bat. His two higher selling cards are both of him pitching.
  • This 2016 Bowman Chrome Gold Refractor Fernando Tatis Jr. Rookie Auto numbered to 50 also set a for card record of $117,000: https://www.pwccmarketplace.com/premier-auction/1817
  • No break for these All-Stars: Multiple NBA stars saw big sales the night before their 2022 All-Star matchup. That said, it was the legend Kobe Bryant who led the night in record basketball sales with this 2003 Exquisite Collection Limited Logos Kobe Bryant Patch Auto numbered to 75 selling for a for card record $360,000https://www.pwccmarketplace.com/premier-auction/1907
  • As for the weekend’s game, while he might have been a reserve, three-time All-Star Luka Doncic led all participants in record-breaking sales with this 2018 Panini Flawless Vertical Gold Luka Doncic Rookie Patch Auto numbered to 10 with a for card record of $276,000https://www.pwccmarketplace.com/premier-auction/2262
