1993 MAGIC THE GATHERING MTG ALPHA BLACK LOTUS AUTO PSA 10 GEM MINT
Magic: The Gathering has a new all-time public sale record. An autographed copy of a Magic: The Gathering Alpha Black Lotus card sold for $540,000 on Thursday night at PWCC Marketplace.
In addition to being the most iconic Magic card ever printed, this copy carries two impressive modifiers that helped push it into record territory — a PSA Gem Mint 10 grade to indicate its flawless condition, and a signature from the card’s illustrator Christopher Rush.
Only six PSA 10 copies exist. It is unknown how many of those six also feature a Rush autograph. There is, however, at least one other example. It set the previous public sale record for a Magic card when it went for $511,100 in a 2021 PWCC auction.
The Alpha Black Lotus holds legendary status among Magic fans and collectors. The Alpha set is the first printing of the wildly popular trading card game, and the Black Lotus — considered by many to be the most powerful Magic card ever — had a limited print run of roughly 1,100 copies. Many of those copies deteriorated as they were used in player decks. That makes it very tough to find one in perfect or near-perfect condition.
2018 NATIONAL TREASURES SHAI GILGEOUS-ALEXANDER RC LOGOMAN PATCH AUTO 1/1 SGC 9
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s autographed 2018 National Treasures Logoman rookie is now his highest-selling card of all time. Bidding for the Oklahoma City point guard’s one-of-one masterpiece ended at a total of $228,000, shattering his previous record of $87,000 set last fall.
SGA’s record-setter features the OKC star’s autograph and an official NBA Logoman patch from his rookie Clippers jersey. SGC graded it a Mint 9.
2020 TOPPS CHROME FORMULA 1 SAPPHIRE PADPARADSCHA MAX VERSTAPPEN 1/1 #6 PSA 9 Max Verstappen’s 2020 Topps Chrome Formula 1 Sapphire Edition Padaparadscha trading card sold for $336,000 in PWCC’s March Premier Auction to become his second-highest selling trading card to date.
The demand for this 1/1 card is driven by its extreme rarity. It was released as a special Sapphire Edition parallel in Topps’ very first Chrome F1 set. The odds of pulling one of these parallels were 1:605 packs, making it one of Verstappen’s hardest-to-find and most valuable cards ever produced.
This masterpiece features a padparadscha gem-like holofoil and is graded a Mint 9 by PSA.
2017 NATIONAL TREASURES EMERALD DE’AARON FOX ROOKIE PATCH AUTO /5 PSA 9 MINT De’Aaron Fox’s autographed 2017 National Treasures Emerald rookie card sold for $12,600 Thursday night becoming his highest-selling trading card yet. The All-Star guard’s record-setter is one of only five copies in existence. And at a Mint 9 it is PSA’s highest-graded copy of the card from that set.
This record comes as no surprise considering the way Fox has risen to the occasion this season when the game is on the line.
2022 BOWMAN CHROME BLACK WAVE JACKSON HOLLIDAY ROOKIE AUTO 1/1 #CDAJH PSA 10 GEM Although he has yet to make his Major League debut, Jackson Holliday already has a five-figure trading card. The young star’s autographed 2022 Bowman Chrome Black Wave rookie card sold for $30,000 Thursday night making it his highest-selling card in existence.
Holliday’s record-setting Black Wave parallel from the 2022 Bowman Chrome set is his first Bowman card ever produced. Both the card and Holliday’s autograph earned a Gem Mint 10 grade from PSA.
