PWCC Marketplace Premier Auction Ends March 19, 2022

The PWCC March Premier Auction is now live, with hundreds of high-end lots across baseball, basketball, football, hockey, golf, soccer, Pokémon, and more.  Bidding will conclude on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 7PM PT, with extended bidding starting immediately after.  To apply to bid go to:  https://pwccmarketplace.com/premier-auction

PWCC’s Extended Bidding format allows bidders to participate on a level playing field and eliminates “bid sniping” by requiring interested bidders to place a bid on an item before the 7 p.m. deadline. Once in the Extended Bidding period, only those who have previously bid may continue to place bids on an item.

The PWCC March Premier Auction features a number of unique and exciting offerings, including a rarely seen Tom Brady parallel, a highly graded Shoeless Joe Jackson, multiple Upper Deck Limited Logos patch autos, a PSA 10 SP Authentic Gold Tiger Woods Rookie Auto, and more.

2000 E-X Essential Credentials Future Tom Brady ROOKIE /25 #122 PSA 9 MINT

This rarely seen parallel is considered a “holy grail” Tom Brady rookie card and one of only seven to receive a PSA 9 grade, with none graded higher.

In addition to this being a serial numbered Brady rookie issue, the card features a few unique components that drive demand even further. While only 25 of these “Future” parallels were manufactured, several are missing their reverse serial number—making this properly serial stamped example even more desirable. Also, the card incorporates a rare and unique image of Brady in Patriots practice gear.

And, of course, the card goes to the block at a time when Brady assets are of particular interest – right on the heels of his retirement after 22 NFL seasons in what is certainly a Hall of Fame career.

1915 Cracker Jack Shoeless Joe Jackson #103 SGC 8.5 NM-MT+

This SGC 8.5 is a population 1 of 4 with just two graded higher. In the past ten years, the price appreciation of this card has been astronomical. On October 5, 2012, an SGC 8.5 sold for $38,266. On December 4, 2018, an SGC 8.5 sold for $72,599. And on September 18, 2021, an SGC 8.5 sold at auction for $228,000.

PWCC is releasing “A Guide to Joe Jackson’s Trading Cards” next month, which includes an in-depth analysis of his most popular cards. His 1915 Cracker Jack is prominently featured in the guide, which provides insight into his life, storied MLB career, and his widely misunderstood role in the Black Sox Scandal, for which a jury found Jackson not guilty.

1998 Fleer Tradition Playmakers Theatre Michael Jordan /100 #9 PSA 10 GEM MINT

A crown jewel from 1998 Fleer productions, this Tradition Playmakers Theatre Michael Jordan ranks as the highest quality example ever auctioned publicly. This is an issue that helped elevate the passion for chase card inserts to new heights.

A PSA 10 is an exciting find because, much like the Precious Metal Gems from the prior year, the Playmakers Theatre issue is highly fragile and rarely seen in grades higher than NRMT. The edges are notoriously fragile and plagued by heavy chipping, and the embossed surfaces are prone to surface issues that prevent high technical assessments. The #9 Michael Jordan is obviously the focal point of this scarce set, with only 100 copies made.

2003 Exquisite Collection Limited Logos Michael Jordan PATCH AUTO /75 BGS 9.5 and 2003 Exquisite Collection Limited Logos Kobe Bryant PATCH AUTO /75 #KB BGS 9

Few cards inspire as much excitement as the 2003 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection Limited Logos inserts. The cards represent one of the finest and most important modern basketball offerings – and are some of both Jordan and Kobe’s best cards on the market. The set itself is also incredibly important for the industry as it helped influence the way cards are designed to this day.

2001 SP Authentic Golf Gold Tiger Woods ROOKIE AUTO /100 #45 PSA 10 GEM MINT

How popular is Tiger Woods? He just won the top spot in the PGA Tour’s inaugural Player Impact Program rankings – a financial purse awarded to the most popular golfer according to a series of media metrics – despite the fact that he didn’t take a single PGA Tour swing over the past year.

As for this Tiger rookie card it is more than just his popularity driving demand – only 100 of these Gold parallels saw the light of day and, currently, there are just 17 PSA 10 examples in existence.

1952 Topps Willie Mays #261 PSA 8 NM-MT

The auction sales history of nicely centered 1952 Topps Mays PSA 8 cards tell the tale of performance:

  • August 2008: $10,812
  • June 2015: $39,381
  • August 2020: $51,877
  • May 2021: $186,960
  • December 2021: $258,000.

For perspective, that return equals roughly the same ROI as purchasing stock in Amazon in 2015–one of the stock market’s best performers during this time frame.

That said, the ’52 Topps Mays offers investors more than a baseball card; it offers a piece of Americana that could easily steal the show at the Met or National Museum of African American History and Culture.
