PWCC May 2023 Premier Auction Recap

PWCC Marketplace is excited to announce the results of its May Premier Auction. The auction featured nearly 200 assets across baseball, basketball, football, hockey, soccer, Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, and more. Total auction sales were $6,226,800. Multiple records and interesting price points were set in the auction.

NOTE: The PWCC Sales History shows if a payment on a final sales price is still pending. When a payment is received, it is updated as a final sale in the history tool. In the rare case where a payment is not received, the entry is removed from the sales history.

1999 Ultra Masterpiece Barry Bonds 1/1 #139P PSA 7 NRMT

Barry Bonds’ 1999 Fleer Ultra Masterpiece one-of-one card sold for $63,000 Thursday night at PWCC to become his highest selling trading card at public auction, according to
public data sets. This record-setter is considered one of Bonds’ scarcest trading cards in existence. The Masterpiece parallel features an image of the slugger mid-swing with holofoil lettering and full bleed edges. PSA graded the card a Near Mint 7.

2022 Panini Prizm WWE Black John Cena 1/1 #45 BGS 9.5 Gem Mint

John Cena’s 2022 Panini Black Prizm WWE trading card sold for $17,100 Thursday night at PWCC Marketplace to become his highest selling trading card of all time. This record-setter hails from Panini’s debut WWE trading card set and is considered a crown jewel from the landmark collection. Cena’s Black Prizm parallel features a horizontal holographic image of the wrestling legend carrying Shinsuke Nakamura during a 2017 match. BGS graded this card a Gem Mint
9.5.

1996 UD U.S. Olympic Reflections Of Gold Michael Jordan AUTO #RG1 BGS 8.5 NM-MT+

This Michael Jordan Reflections of Gold insert from Upper Deck’s 1996 Olympic Champions collection sold for $120,000 setting an all-time record for the card. Upper Deck released this set just before the 1996 Olympics kicked off in Atlanta to celebrate American Olympic athletes of the past and present. The 135-card set included 10 different Reflections of Gold foil inserts that fell once in every 79 packs. However, even with those odds (1:2.8 boxes), examples of Jordan’s Reflections of Gold Autograph rarely surface. In fact, this is the first time PWCC has had the honor of auctioning this insert.

2016 Panini Eternal NBA Finals Black LeBron James NBA LOGOMAN PATCH 1/1 BGS 9

LeBron James’ 1/1 Black Finals parallel from the 2016 Panini Eternals set sold for $30,600 in PWCC’s May Premier Auction setting a for-card record. The patch included in this card comes from one of LeBron’s game-worn Cavaliers jerseys from the iconic 2016 NBA Finals series against the Warriors. LeBron and the Cavaliers found a way to come back from a 3-1 deficit against Golden State – the first team to do so in Finals history — to win the franchise’s first NBA Championship. This 1/1 masterpiece is among just a handful of cards to ever feature a game-worn finals jersey patch, much less an official Logoman patch.

2005 Exquisite Collection Super Aaron Rodgers ROOKIE PATCH DNA AUTO /15 PSA 10

An Aaron Rodgers Super Jersey rookie issue from Upper Deck’s 2005 Exquisite Collection sold for $23,700 Thursday night to set a record for the card.  This record-setter features a large game-used autographed jersey patch and is serial numbered four out of just 15. With a PSA pop report of one, this Gem Mint 10 example is the highest graded card of the set.

1933 Goudey Lou Gehrig #92 SGC 7 NRMT (PWCC-S)

An SGC Near Mint 7 example of Lou Gehrig’s 1933 Goudey trading card sold for $45,600 in PWCC’s May Premier Auction to set a for-grade record. This card, which earned PWCC’s Superior eye appeal designation, sold for nearly $10,000 more than the previous record for an SGC 7 which sold for $36,000 last week.
