PWCC September 2022 Premier Auction Recap

This month’s Premier Auction featured 436 assets across baseball, basketball, football, hockey, golf, soccer, Pokémon, Magic The Gathering, and more.   Total auction sales were $15,950,400.  Multiple records and interesting price points were set in the auction. They are listed below.

This $1,050,000 price puts it at second place all-time for a Clemente card sale and more than doubles the third highest price ($478,000). Of the 4,735 copies of Clemente’s rookie card ever graded by PSA, only 11 have received a PSA 9 grade. Just one copy has ever received the coveted PSA 10 Gem Mint status. Since 2020, only two PSA 9 public sales have been reported — and they both went for just over $1 million.

Michael Jordan cards reached multiple “for card” records Thursday night. The high Jordan sellers in the auction were a 2003 Exquisite Collection Number Pieces and a 2003 Exquisite Noble Nameplate which both went for $456,000.

Another “for card” record for Jordan is also the highest selling Essential Credentials basketball card of all time with this $132,000 sale.

Jalen Green has more than doubled the high sales price for one of his trading cards. This 2021 National Treasures NBA 75th Jalen Green Rookie Patch Auto card numbered to 75 sold for $51,600. The previous high sales price for a Green card was $24,000. Of the 75 copies, this card is the only one currently graded to a PSA 10.

The highest price ever paid for a Leaf card of Tom Brady is set with this $120,000 sale. The card, number to just /35, is the first Brady card by Leaf to break into the six figures.

The $24,000 sale is a “for card” record. This is the only PSA 6 in existence and the highest PSA graded example of the card.
