
In 1915, Art met the Pirates super-star at Honus’s sporting goods store located in Pittsburgh. In 1927, Bissell started to assemble numerous baseball mementos dedicating the collection as “The Honus Wagner Memorial Hall of Fame Museum.”
In addition to the numerous Honus Wagner items, Art collected signatures from other greats of the game; Babe Ruth, Pie Traynor, Ty Cobb, Lloyd Waner, “Happy” Chandler, Rogers Hornsby, Jack Dempsey, Willie Hoppie and Mickey Cochran, just to name a few. “My father’s commitment and passion endeared him to a future Hall of Fame Pittsburgh shortstop Honus Wagner and many other athletes, said Cheryl Bissel, Art’s daughter.
