SCP Auctions is proud to offer the Estate Collection of Gordon “Mickey” Cochrane as part of our Fall, 2011 Premier Auction. Highlighting the impressive group of awards, autographed pieces and personal ephemera is Mickey Cochrane’s 1934 American League MVP Trophy.
Mickey Cochrane’s Hall of Fame plaque notes that he “compiled a notable record as a player and manager. The spark of the Athletics’ championship teams of 1929-30-31, he had a batting average mark of .346 for those three years. Cochrane led Detroit to two league championships and a World Series title in 1935.” Cochrane’s lifetime .320 average is the highest of any ML catcher. Of his defensive prowess, it was said of him that as a master of the mechanics of catching, he had no peer.
