SCP Auctions is proud to announce the sale of The Abrams Family Collection of Jackie Robinson Memorabilia. Highlights from The Abrams Family Collection of Jackie Robinson Memorabilia will be on display at the National Sports Collectors Convention in Chicago from July 31st through August 4th, 2013 at the SCP Auction booth (#1013P, 1015P, 1112P, 1114P).
Assembled by a New York area father and son, inspired by their love of baseball and admiration of the courage and character of Jackie Robinson, The Abrams Family Collection includes several highly important game used items that until recently had been displayed in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y. Several of the key pieces from the collection are being made available publicly for the first time as part of SCP Auctions’ Fall Premier Auction.
Highlights Include:
- 1950’s Brooklyn Dodgers Team Jacket Attributed to Jackie Robinson
- Jackie Robinson’s 1955 World Series H&B Professional Model Game Used Bat – Only One Known
- Jackie Robinson’s 1949 (MVP Season) H&B Professional Model Game Used Bat – One of Only Two Known
On April 15, 1947, in one of the most anticipated events in baseball history, Jackie Robinson donned his Brooklyn Dodger uniform, trotted out to the field against the Boston Braves and, in one fell swoop, obliterated the color line that had barred black players from playing major league baseball. SCP Auctions VP Dan Imler states, “Volumes have been written and feature films have been produced documenting the extraordinary impact of that event and Jackie’s role in everything from sports in America to the dawning of the civil rights era. Suffice it say that no single baseball player in our history had as much impact on our country and in our culture than Jackie Robinson. SCP Auctions is thrilled to present these rare and historic items, utilized by Jackie in one of the most transcendent periods in baseball history.”
