Second Largest Goldin Auction Ever with $45 Million in Sales

With Super Bowl LVI looming, rare and valuable collectibles and memorabilia featuring all-time NFL legends and rising stars took center stage at Goldin’s Winter Elite Auction last weekend, which brought in a whopping $45 million in sales, making it the second largest auction in company history.

The auction was headlined by collectibles highlighting seven-time Super Bowl champion and future Hall of Fame quarterback, Tom Brady. On the heels of Brady’s retirement after a 22-year career, prices for items from the legendary quarterback reached stratospheric heights. A 2000 Playoff Contenders “Championship Ticket” Brady signed rookie card (graded BGS NM-MT 8), known as the hobby’s most desirable NFL card, sold for $1.4 million. Meanwhile, a 2021 Kaboom Brady card sold for $188,400, an all-time record for any Kaboom card.

While collectors expressed their admiration for Brady at the close of his career, hobbyists also showed their support for a burgeoning young professional based in Cincinnati. Multiple Joe Burrow trading cards smashed records at auction including a 2020 National Treasures autographed card, which sold for $289,000, the most expensive Burrow card of all time. That record was eclipsed almost immediately by a Burrow Immaculate Collection rookie card, which sold for an eye-popping $534,000. In all, 13 Burrow cards sold for more than $40,000 as the Bengals captain looks to become the first quarterback ever to win both the Heisman Trophy and a Super Bowl.

“One career comes to a close and another blossoms – the circle of life in sports,” said Goldin Executive Chairman and Founder Ken Goldin. “It’s always so exciting this time of year to see what impact the Super Bowl will have on collectibles and per usual, the fans have spoken and Joe ‘Franchise’ Burrow is king. Football fans came out in force for this auction but so did basketball, soccer and hockey enthusiasts. 2022 is off to a hot start and it’s only up from here.”

Other notable lots included a complete set of 1980-81 Topps Basketball PSA GEM MT 10 cards, which sold for $1,440,000, an all-time record for this set, a LeBron James signed rookie patch card that sold for $1,392,000 and a 1957 Pelé card that sold for $486,000, the second most expensive soccer card of all-time.

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay also purchase a Muhammad Ali Fight Worn Walkout Robe for $438,000.

The Winter Elite auction featured several rare, valuable and record-breaking items including:
