SportsCardLink Auctions SportsCardLink is proud to announce the successful conclusion of its inaugural Sports Card and Memorabilia auction on Thursday, January 27th, 2011. The auction included a total of 394 lots which received an amazing 8329 bids. Several spectacular prices were attained, including a staggering $31,349 for an SGC 80 (6) 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle card, the second most ever paid in hobby history for an example graded EX/MT 6 by either PSA or SGC. In fact, the last 4 examples publically sold of this card all sold for between $15,600 and $19,975! Examples of other strong auction results included a 1914 Cracker Jack Ty Cobb card in PSA 6 for $12,362 (last sale of another example was $10,149), a beautiful 1939 PSA 8 Joe DiMaggio Play Ball card which sold for $3,105 against recent sales of other copies at $2,499 and $1,881, respectively, a T205 Gold Border Christy Mathewson PSA 7, which sold for $8,165 against an SMR of $7,500; a 1968 Roger Maris in PSA 10, which sold for $1515, against recent sales of $863 and $1,115; and a T206 Ty Cobb Red Portrait in PSA 5 at $2,302 against an SMR of $1,950 and recent sales of $2,006 and $2,103.
Numerous highlights from the Memorabilia side of the auction exist as well, such as the sale of a pair of cleats worn by Mickey Mantle during his 1951 rookie season brought $19,838; a remarkable 1962 Roberto Clemente Pro-Model bat which sold for $11,787; a Reggie Jackson Pro-Model bat from the 1977 World Series ended at $7,245 and an incredible Autographed Type 1 photo of the great Babe Ruth brought $3,191.
