Type 1 Photos, 1979 Wayne Gretzky NHL Debut Photo in Goldin’s February Elite Auction

Goldin, the leading collectibles marketplace, announces an impressive collection of Type 1 original photos from a variety of athletes in its February Elite Auction. Among the collection is an incredibly rare photo of Wayne Gretzky after scoring his first-ever career point and career assist on October 10, 1979.  The arrival of a Gretzky debut game photo on the auction block has been highly anticipated throughout the hobby.

Within the past year, four different Michael Jordan NBA Debut Type 1’s have surfaced and sold for up to $225,000, creating excitement for other debut photos of some of the greats in sports history.

Type 1 photos are experiencing unprecedented enthusiasm in the industry. Recently, Goldin introduced its first major collection of Pop Culture photographs featuring greats like Bob Marley, Albert Einstein, Marilyn Monroe, Gandhi, Walt Disney, JFK, Madonna, Tupac Shakur and Michael Jackson.

  • Rare 1932 Lou Gehrig first base fielding photo signed to fellow Hall of Fame teammate Tony Lazzeri
  • 1991 “Tears of Triumph” Photo of Michael Jordan and Father James Jordan where Michael weeps holding his first NBA championship trophy.
  • 1962 Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali) portrait photo by Stanley Weston when Ali was just 20 years old.
  • Wayne Gretzky Signed 1988 Stanley Cup Finals proof photo.
  • 1989 Mike Tyson photo by John Paschal from Tyson cameo in Toyota’s Japanese advertising campaign.
  • Babe Ruth photographed in 1923 at his family’s “Home Plate Farm” in Massachusetts with his wife Helen and baby daughter Dorothy.
  • Golfer Bobby Jones at the 1930 U.S. Open in his famous Grand Slam year.

The photos are currently available for bidding as part of Goldin’s February Elite Auction and will be available for bidding through March 2, 2024.
