Vintage Leaf Prototype Card Brings Big Bucks At Huggins & Scott Auctions

A recently-discovered 1948-49 Leaf baseball card of Hal Newhouser blasted into the stratosphere in the first Huggins & Scott auction of 2009. Surfacing in early 2008, a never before seen 1948-49 Leaf card of Hal Newhouser, apparently a prototype for the set, finally came to auction nearly a year later when Huggins & Scott offered it in the company’s first 2009 sale. The card, graded ‘poor’ by SGC, sold for $80,000. With the buyer’s premium, the final realized price was $84,000. For the rest of the story on Sports Collectors Daily, click here.
