The 32nd Annual National Sports Collectors Convention will be hosted by The City of Chicago at the Donald E Stephens Convention Center August 3 – 7, 2011. Open to the public, the five (5) day family-oriented event is the largest sports and entertainment collectibles show in the world. It’s a place where sports/entertainment collectors, fans and dealers can meet to buy, trade and discuss collecting memorabilia such as trading cards, vintage game-used equipment and other sports- and entertainment-related collectibles, as well as meet athletes and get autographs.
“The Nationals Sports Collectors Convention is the premier showcase of the multi-billion dollar sports- and entertainment-collectibles industries,” said Mike Berkus, Founder / National Sports Collectors Convention. “We are excited to have Chicago host this experience where collectors, sports fans and the entire family can enjoy five days of sports paradise.”
Not only is this a once-in-a-lifetime experience for collectors and fans, but businesses in the City of Chicago-such as retailers, downtown restaurants, hotels, and rent-a-car companies-will benefit financially from the event. Here’s a brief snapshot of what hosting this event will mean for Chicago:
1. Approximately 45,000 are expected to attend the five-day event, with most staying multiple nights;
2. Over 750 collectible exhibitor booths and 100 corporate booths will be set up;
3. Which translates into approximately 3,000 exhibitor personnel in the city for 6 – 7 nights;
4. Exhibitors and fans are collectively expected to reserve over 4,500 room nights per night, which should also mean an additional 20,000-plus restaurant customers;
5. Finally, 90-plus current and former athletes from every sport will generate local and national media attention.
Scheduled to sign autographs at the National are: Gale Sayers, Mike Tyson, Joe Montana, Antti Niemi, Starlin Castro, Carlton Fisk, Bart Starr, Frank Robinson, Cal Ripken, Bo Jackson and many more, including 2011 Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee and former Chicago Bulls great, Artis Gilmore. Approximately 90 well-known athletes will be signing autographs at the TriStar Autograph Pavilion.
“We are extremely excited that the 32nd Annual National Sports Collectors Convention is returning to Chicago,” said John Broggi, NSCC Executive Director / Promoter. “Chicago has an exceptionally strong sports tradition with very avid and knowledgeable collectors and a diversified sports fan base. Over 750 exhibitors from around the country and 90 high-profile athletes will be signing throughout the event.”
In addition, for the very first time ever, the prestigious World Olympic Collectors Fair will be held in North America, in conjunction with the 2011 National Sports Collectors Convention. The World Olympic Collectors Fair will include Olympic pins, mascots, posters, prize medals, commemorative medals, stamps, coins, programs, tickets, uniforms, game-used equipment, and much more. There will be something for everyone from beginner to advanced collector.
The World Olympic Collectors Fair is the largest Olympic Collectors Fair held annually in the world. Previously Fairs have been held in Lausanne, Switzerland; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Seoul, South Korea; Warsaw, Poland; Cologne, Germany; and Beijing, China. Members of the USA and International Olympic Committees, along with 1968 USA Gold Medal winners Dick Fosbury and Bob Beamon, will be attending and participating in the 17th World Olympic Collectors Fair Opening Ceremony within the National Sports Collectors Convention.
